25 Christmas Midnight Mass - The Nativity of the Lord
The two most holy events we celebrate each year occurred in deepest night. On this night, Mary gives birth to the Son of God. And before dawn on that first Easter morning, Jesus was raised for the dead. Tonight, Mary wraps her newborn Son in swaddling clothes. Years later His body would be wrapped in a linen cloth. Mary lays her vulnerable infant in a wooden manger; one day her persecuted Son would be nailed to a wooden cross. Jesus lay in a trough where animals fed. Years later, He became living bread, giving Himself to be food for eternal life. Tonight, the angel of the Lord announces His birth to the shepherds. After the Resurrection, an angel of the Lord proclaimed the joyous news to the women who had come to anoint His body. Whether into the darkness of the Bethlehem night, out of the darkness of the tomb, or throughout our own darknesses of sin and death, the unquenchable light who is the Lord comes into our lives, raises us up, and brings us abundant joy and great rejoicing. How has the Lord brought light to your life and how does He still do so? World Library Publications "Jesus, Word of the Father, come and speak your words of grace and peace to my heart." the WORD among us Christmas Mass - Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord
Suddenly the sky lights up in an unexpected and glorious way. With a multitude of the heavenly host, an angel tells the shepherds that a child has just been born who is a savior, who brings peace, who is the Christ, who is Lord. And then the real surprise; The baby is not on a throne or in a palace, where they would never dare go, but in a feeding trough in a stable. For them, this is home. So they go at once, find the infant, and retell the wondrous message of the angels. The fulfillment of God's love and mercy, sung of by Isaiah, proclaimed by Paul, and personified by Jesus, has, at long last, come into the world, revealed in the breaking dawn. How is Jesus revealed to you in today's world? World Library Publications "Jesus, Word of the Father, come and speak your words of grace and peace to my heart." the WORD among us Christmas Mass - Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord
According to Genesis, God's first gift to the world was light, but darkness remained. Very soon after God created human beings, the darkness of sin entered the world as well. The light and the darkness have always coexisted. With the birth of Christ came a different kind of light, a light that can overcome these darknesses. Where human beings have brought sin and injustice, the light of Christ brings mercy and justice. Where we have brought hate and discord, the light of Christ brings love and peace. Where we have brought apathy and despair, the light of Christ brings joy and hope. Where we have brought suffering and death, the light of Christ brings compassion and eternal life. No longer are we imprisoned by our sins or by the evil in the world. We live in the light of Christ, which enlightens everyone which exposes the truth, and which reveals the true holiness of all of God's creation. How can you spread Christ's light in your family, your town, the world? Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph "Father, thank you for the gift of my family. Help me to care for them as you care for me." the WORD among us | 31 Saturday Vigil Mass - Solemnity of Mary, Holy Mother of God
Through Mary, God became incarnate in our world. The shepherds were so excited by the news that they rushed to the stable to find the child who was Christ and Lord and tell everyone what they had heard. How appropriate we celebrate this new beginning on New Year's Day, the day that marks the start of a new year, a time when we look forward to the promise of a clean slate, resolve to make changes in our lives, and renew our hope in God's promise to humankind: that Jesus was born into this world to live with us, to die for us, and to save us from our sins. Mary humbly, selflessly, and obediently bore Christ to the world. May we follow her example in this new year and bear Christ to God's children in our own little corner of the world. How can you bring hope and joy to others by bearing Christ to the world? World Library Publications |

World Library Publications
